I'm getting ready to make the rear hub flanges for 20" wheels, for the back of a delta trike, and I'm wondering if it would be a good ideal to slightly widen the flange spacing from the original wheel, for extra cornering strength?

Not sure which plan you are looking at , some of the one's I own say the flanges are further apart for strength.

However if your wheels are only 20" with plenty of spokes there is probably no need.
If your wheels are 26" or greater and a low spoke count it MAY help ?

Gut feeling, it helps a bit in sideways strength (anti Pretzel), but will reduce stiffness, unless the tension is cranked up very high.

Best bet is just to use 36 spoked hubs. And the width is then more a visual preference.

The wheels are 20" with 48 spokes. It's probably strong enough at the current width, but I was thinking that since I'm at this point in the build, I could widen it a little if it would help, but I didn't think about the stiffness problem.
