Seems the Wordpress theme I trusted (Newspaper) has had some exploits in the blog portion (which I don't actually use).
The offending plugin is called Visual Composer and is required for the site to display properly.

Of course now that there are thousands of sites infected, the developers have vanished and there are no updates.
Most likely, I am going to have to dig through endless lines of PHP in an attempt to remove the problem code.

I was really hoping to have the site run for a few years more before requiring an entire redo since my time is taken up by my very busy day job and farm life.
But... that's how it goes!

Anyhow, I am going to try to find time soon to fix the problem before my entire site ends up in some black list.
I also have a new version of this forum to install as the current one is starting to fall apart as the host keeps updating the server.

Did I mention I wish I could yank the cord out on all computer tech and never plug it back in??
Yay!

Looks like your site is infected with rhe wordpress issue you mentioned, various pages are doing blind redirects to all different sites now.

Thanks for the report. I am taking some time from work tomorrow to see if I can tack down the bad code in the wordpress theme.
I should have listened to that inner voice 5 years ago that told me....

"Don't follow the crowd, spend endless hours coding your site from scratch even though 90% of the world had moved to wordpress"!
Looks like I will be doing that once life offers me that kind of time.

I spent some time reading how others have cleaned the issues from the well known and popular "Newspaper Theme" that I used on the site.
Found most of the items listed, so I hope the site is working normally.

I know everyting here is LONG overdue for an overhaul, but I just don't have much tome or resources for that kind of thing these days.
The forum is right on the edge of failing as well, and I did purchase a newer version.

I am thinking about scrapping the entire main site and just integrating it all into a new forum with all content available online from all the plans as a low cost membership type of thing.
Looking for ways to keep all of this online and have it at least pay for itself.

Thanks,
Brad

I am giving up, the entire main site is oozing with malware. I spent 2 days cleaning the infected PHP, and whatever fragment remains is just rewriting filenames and slowing everything down. Seems it's in the database, php code, css code and probably on the hosting server. Getting fed up with it all really.

I now have to delete everything - main site and forum and then move to a new platform and reinstall a new version of the forum, hoping that it is backwards compatible. I really miss the first version of AZ I coded from scratch in pure HTML.... so slick and so easy to use, but phones ruined it thanks to having to do all that responsive junk.

This time I am staying clear of wordpress and the endless theme updates. Will probably put the store on Squarespace and then just keep the forum. Frustrating!!! Anyone out there want to purchase a 24 year old business that has real potential (if you have time)? Time is not something I have a lot of.

Anyhow, I will make an announcement soon that everything is going dark for a while while I sort out completely redoing it all from scratch once again. Not ready to give up... too many great folks in this forum!

Later!

Brad- I thought it was just me! But my AVG anti-malware software is flagging it and I just ignore the warning and everything seems to work fine after that. I SURE HATE to see this happen to a fine website! Please let us know if we can do anthing on our end before you have to start all over from scratch!

Thanks everyone!
Yeah, I am going to keep it running for sure, but alas I have accepted that I am looking a total redo.
That explains my recent temper tantrum!

So here is the plan...

  1. Find a new host and move to a less expensive plan.
  2. Install the new forum software and attempt a database migration.
  3. Redo the plans page in pure HTML/CSS (no more wordpress and theme bloat).
  4. Send potential plan customers to a Squarespace cart site.
This will remove a lot of the bloat and bleeding edges from what I have now, but it won't be a simple task.
Since I am staying with the same forum software, I am hoping for a full migration and not another start-over like I had 6 years ago.
The one issue now is that my main wordpress site is farked and I can't even access the control panel now.
Hope to fix that so I can at least backup the customer downloads database.
On the bright side, I never stored any transaction data, and used paypal as a processor.

Not sure when I am going to begin since I am flying up North into places with almost no internet for weeks at a time for work.

Thanks for listening to my rants!
Cheers,
Brad

It's been OK for me - We live out in the woods, and only have a satellite connection.
OTOH, it's been clear sky today - If a cloud passes over (forget about it, if it rains), it usually goes down.
