So What's The Deal With Runners?

My cozy little nook in the corner!
Now that I'm back to riding regularly, albeit by means of my stupid UPWRONG, I've noticed something peculiar.
I go out for a few miles most mornings, as I'm able, & I frequently see people walking, running, & cycling. I normally
smile, greet them with a "Good Morning", & wave. Most walkers will respond with either a greeting or a wave.
Same with the cyclists, most will respond in kind. Runners? Not so much....

Seems about 9 out of 10 runners will totally ignore me, refusing to even acknowledge my existence! No greeting, no
wave, NOTHING. Some of course have ear-buds in, & can't hear me. Yeah, I get that. But they SEE me wave. Still, nothing!

Are they just snobbish, snotty, stuck-up, elitists, who think they're somehow superior to cyclists because their choice of
exercise is more strenuous than ours? I don't know.

Oh well, in the meantime, I'll continue to cast us HPVers (whether on 2 wheels, 3 wheels, or 4), in a positive light,
while smiling, greeting, & waving! 😊

Hypotheses...

Runner's normally run with their arms 'locked' into a 90 degree angle, therefore cannot move their arms to wave back.

Runners expend a large amount of adrenaline, therefore are to weak to raise their arms.

Runners must run at a certain rhythm , and raising their arms, would throw off their balance.

Runners, are too embarrassed to show their sweaty arm pits.

Runner's intentionally avoid eye contact, so they don't have to acknowledge your presence.

They are very, very busy concentrating on the pain in their ankles & knees and counting the drips of sweat that are falling into each eye separately. They write this info down in a big greasy ledger daily. They have no time for pleasantries.

People are losing the ability to socialise with fellow humans using spoken words. It is difficult enough in a car (passenger) to send a text without errors and it would be nigh on impossible for a runner to do it. If it was possible to send each runner a text there may be a different response.

I used to run and always said hi to passers by, even cyclists. I've ran in Canada and the UK, and found that "city folk" were far less friendly that the ones I met in small towns.
